He is summarizing what he did in the war to help
his country and how honored and grateful he is to General Grant for promoting
him. He was telling them about what he did in Gettysburg and how he was so
excited to win the war. He was praying for all of the souls that were lost in
the Civil War, and how wonderful the men feel that survived. He was praying for
the 1158 men that he lost in battle.
