October 2 & 3, 2011
Sophie’s had a busy week and did a lot of homeschool work,
just not a lot to “show” for the blog.
She completed half of the long, challenging Lewis &
Clark Webquest 2 and watched the National Geographic: Lewis & Clark: The
Great Journey West, 2002, 41 mins.
She liked the documentary a lot (narrated by Jeff Bridges—the
Dude abides) and learned more about the expedition for her board game project,
which she will begin in earnest the week of Oct. 17th.
She also edited her organized her Louisiana Purchase comic
book in preparation for working at Farm School on taking the small drawings from
her story board and redrawing them in larger and carefully. Gamma will then
scan them and resize them to fit into the comic book template that Sophie
chose. She has 20 cells to complete. She finished 5 of them this week at Farm
School and plans to work on one or two a day until they are all done. Gamma has
offered to help her darken the lines of the comic before she scans them in. I
think the comic will be done by the last week of October. The comic will be
print on its own and also will be published in the Midden Earth Almanac, Fall
2011 edition. She also edited and typed in the story of the comic.
She skated on Monday too and began work on her Juvenile
program—it’s really good already and great music—very fast & fancy footwork
and some awesome jumps! Coach Linda and Sophie like the Falmouth Family Ice
Adult skate session in the morning because there aren’t a lot of skaters
usually at that time. Lily went skating too! Then Emma treated us to pizza
lunch. Sophie worked on her math and played with Lily.
On Tuesday Sophie
spent the day with another homeschooling family after meeting Cecelia for
skating. She had a nice time with her friends and learned about how other
homeschool families spend their day. She worked on some “homework” there but
mostly had a nice time with her friend and her family.
Wednesday was Farm School day after skating—another 2 hours
work on her new program and working on her Intermediate moves, which she will
test next month. She worked on her comic book and talked with Gamma. Then we
were off to dance classes and Glee Club! Busy, busy girl but happy and healthy
as always!
