January 6, 2011 Day Seventy-Seven

5 x 5 for 5th Grade

5. Vocabulary

1. Colony: A group of people coming from their native country to form a settlement in the New World

2. Fort: A permanent military post

3. Governor: A ruler or Chief Magistrate appointed to govern a colony or province

4. Cranium: The portion of the skull that protects the brain including 5 different bones or plates

5. Frontal, sphenoid, temporal, parietal, occipital bones/ plates: The bones/plates that are a part of the cranium

5 Sentences

1. We went to the Plymouth Colony before Thanksgiving and we will go again in May.

2. In Popham there is the big fort that was used in the Civil War.

3. John Carver was the Governor of Plymouth and then William Bradford.

4. The bones that are part of the Cranium are not all the bones in the skull, there are the Mandible and the Maxillary bones.

5. The sutures divide the 5 bones/plates making the Cranium.

1. There are 127 pages in my science book and I have to color all of them!

2. The themes for the Skating show in March are Space and Enchanted.

2. Are the identities of all the passengers and crewman on the Mayflower known? A: All of the Adult passengers have been identified

3. What is known about the educational level and financial status of the Pilgrims? A: Few of the pilgrims aboard the Mayflower had formal education

4. What was the unwritten agreement that held the Separatists together? A: They adopted an unwritten covenant that gave them allegiance to a cause in which a group deeply believes.

5. Why did the Separatists want to leave Holland after living there for 12 years? A: They were concerned they were losing their English Identity
