Chemistry: Chapter 3 Report
Chemistry Chapter Report for Amazing Kitchen Chemistry Projects You Can Build Yourself
by Cynthia Light Brown
Chapter Name:
  1. List any glossary words and definitions.
Chemical reaction: the rearrangement of atoms in a substance to make a new chemical substance

Reactants: the substances that are being changed in a chemical reaction

Products: the new substances formed by a chemical reaction

Periodic table of elements: a table that arranges all of the elements according to their properties

Activation energy: the energy that starts a chemical reaction

  2. List 5 facts/details you learned from the chapter.
    1. Nickel, Copper, and gold are elements in the periodic table of elements.
    2. A nail rusting reacts to slowly to watch it happen.
    3. A hydrogen atom has only one electron on the outer shell.
    4. An oxygen atom has about 8 electrons on its outer shell.
    5. If the H and the O atom collide it will become one stable atom.

  1. Summarize the chapter in at least 5 sentences.
Reactions: In this chapter I learned about how chemical reactions happen and how fast or how slow they do. I think it's really cool how chemicals react to make a new product. A product is what the chemical reactions develop in to. I learned how atoms collide to make a chemical reaction and I think that is cool.

  2. What did you learn?

I learned all about the periodic table of elements and what that does and means. I also learned how to make a stable atom and how many electrons and protons each type of atom has in their nucleus. It was a short chapter so that's all I learned.

  3. Summarize the lab or project for chapter and make any notes for preparation and list the materials needed.
NA

Creative Writing: On her own, Sophie wrote a fantastic song about the Revolutionary War and here (hear) it is! Inspired by Schoolhouse Rock and re-worked by Sophie and all that she's learned:

The Shot Heard 'round the world
THE BRITISH ARE COMING!
THE BRITISH ARE COMING!

"Now, the ride of Paul Revere,
With Billy Dawes, they had no fear,
They crossed half Massachusetts in one night,
Paul was captured nearby Concord,
So Samuel Prescott kept on the word,
The Regulars are coming and planning a fight"

You know The Shot heard 'round the world,
Was the start of the Revolution,
The Minutemen were ready on the move,
Take your powder, take your gun,
Report to General Washington,
Come on America we got nothing to lose!

At The Old North Bridge the colonists,
Saw the Redcoats burning this,
The Stockpile of munitions in the town,
So they fought the whole day,
cause of one accidental play,
The Shot heard round the world yah all around!

You know The Shot heard 'round the world,
Was the start of the Revolution,
The Minutemen were ready on the move,
Take your powder, take your gun,
Report to General Washington,
Come on America we got nothing to lose!

The Battle of Bunker Hill,
Though America lost it was quite a thrill,
To find out we had lost was such a surprise,
We were low on ammunitions,
So the General had a mission,
Said don't fire till you see the whites of their eyes!

You know The Shot heard 'round the world,
Was the start of the Revolution,
The Minutemen were ready on the move,
Take your powder, take your gun,
Report to General Washington,
Come on America we got nothing to lose!

America won some battles,
Moved the British out like cattle,
Made King George the 3rd so super mad,
Washington crossed the Delaware,
Got the redcoats really scared,
In Yorktown they had won, made Britain sad!

You know The Shot heard 'round the world,
Was the start of the Revolution,
The Minutemen were ready on the move,
Take your powder, take your gun,
Report to General Washington,
Come on America we got nothing to lose
! Come on America we got nothing to lose!
Come on America we got nothing to lose!

THE BRITISH ARE COMING!
