Day 158


7 x7 Seven Subjects & 7 things I learned Day 158

1.       Math

a. In math today I was supposed to determine whether each problem was an equation or a inequality, and whether it was a math sentence or not. Hint: An equation has an equal sign in it.

b. 1 <m x/2 It’s an inequality.

c. 2x – 1 + 0, this is a math sentence, and it’s an equation.

d. y/3 + 3 + x no it’s not a math sentence, it’s an expression.

e. a >- 2 this is an inequality, this is a math sentence.

f. g + 0 n this is not a math sentence.

g. z/3 > 7 yes it is a math sentence!

 

2.       Science

a. In science today I learned about biofuels. A source of renewable energy that holds tremendous potential, it comes from living materials, such as plant waste, crops such as soybeans and corn, and even algae.

b. Here is a pro for Biofuel: Based on plants, so they are renewable.

c. Con: Plants grown for fuel can make fewer plants grown for food.

d. Pro: Are less polluting then burning petroleum products for fuel.

e. Con: It can take more energy to produce them than the energy they provide.

f. Pro: Do not contribute to global warming as much as petroleum fuels.

g. Con: Loss of animal habitats if additional land is devoted to growing biofuels.

 

3.       History

a. I learned that the Old Kingdom (2649 – 2150 bc) is known as the Age of Pyramids.

b. I learned that one theory of how the laborers in Egypt managed to move so much stone was by using a wooden roller coated with mud. Each stone was as heavy as a male hippopotamus.

c. The Great pyramid at Giza is the tomb of the 4th Dynasty Pharoah Khufu.

d. As Cleopatra waited impatiently at the border of Alexandria for events to unfold she knew she needed Roman support to regain her title of Queen.

e. Days after Pompey’s death Julius Caesar visited Alexandria, Ptolemy, (Cleopatra’s father) presented him with the head of his enemy, instead of being pleased by the present, Caesar was outraged and took Ptolemy prisoner in Rome.

f. Cleopatra made her peace with Caesar and he left Cleopatra Queen of Egypt when he left.

g. Caesar and Cleopatra’s first meeting was lost in history.

4. Language

a. Shrek lleva a Artie al barco. Shrek leads Artie to the boat.

b. Pero Artie lo estrella en la costa. But Artie knew of a star, on the coast.

c. Alli encuantran a un mago llamando Merlin. There is a magician called Merlin.

d. Merlin es un poco raro, pero puede hacer magia. Merlin was a little weird, but he can do magic.

e. El los envvia de vuelta a la ciudad para que Artie pueda ser rey. He can send Artie back to the city so he can be King.

f. El detestable Principe Encantador suena con ser rey. But Prince Charming wants to be King.

g. Hay solo un problema, el debe deshacerse de Shrek para poder gobernar el reino. But there was a problem; He would have to get rid of Shrek to rule the Kingdom.

 

5. Reading

a. I read four more chapters of Kingdom Keepers.

b. Wayne told Finn to try and find the other four DHI’s so that they could all cross over into the Park at night and all be there at the same time.

c. Amanda, who goes to school with Finn, wanted to help him; he went into the MK without Authorization and got chased by security the whole day.

d. Wayne has told Charlene, Philby, and Finn the story of the Overtakers and why they were there.

6. Writing

a. In writing today I read about what explanatory writing is.

b. One way of explanatory writing is instructions.

c. Another way of Explanatory writing explains why something has happened.

d. I listed some explanations I read or heard before: I read about why a TV show was canceling, or why a teacher was leaving.

e. Some Instructions I’ve read: Board Game instructions, building instructions, Instructions on how to use a new cell phone.

f. When writing to explain or to give instructions it might be for this reason: to tell how to make something, or to tell how something works.

g. Another reason: To tell how to get somewhere, to tell why something happened.

7. Art
